Vitual Lab Management Applications

Surgient, a provider of Virtual Lab Management Applications for software testing, training and evaluation, has announced the upcoming release of Surgient Virtual Lab Management Applications version 5.3. This extends Surgient's enterprise virtual lab leadership by enabling the support of a wide-array of guest operating systems, 64-bit guest and host environments and advanced complex networking scenarios. Large organizations have indicated the need for these capabilities as they extend their use of virtual labs beyond individual projects and groups.

Surgient Virtual Lab Management Applications enable companies to automate software testing and enhance vital software QA/testing, training, marketing, sales and support processes. By eliminating the substantial time and cost that companies spend to manually deploy, configure and teardown complex software lab environments, Surgient Virtual Lab Management Applications raise the overall efficiency of today's software delivery lifecycle activities, yielding greater employee productivity and a more rapid return on IT investments.

Version 5.3 of Surgient Virtual Lab Management Applications features support for an extensive catalog of operating systems, including 64-bit guest and host computing environments. Surgient v5.3 also contains advanced networking capabilities, allowing an enterprise to manage infinitely complex networking scenarios both securely and effectively. Surgient's ability to support heterogeneity is key to serving the complex configuration needs of enterprise test lab automation and to accelerating the software development lifecycle.

"The use of virtualisation in the enterprise has moved far beyond simple consolidation within the data center," said Erik Josowitz, Surgient vice president of product strategy. "Virtual labs have become an increasingly significant part of the application development and delivery lifecycle. As the only virtual lab solution to accomplish heterogeneous lab management, version 5.3 of Surgient Virtual Lab Management Applications provides organizations with an automated solution that eliminates the high costs associated with setup and teardown of complex software environments."

Surgient version 5.3 is an upgrade to the entire suite of Surgient Virtual Lab Management Applications. The Surgient Virtual QA/Test Lab Management System (VQMS) enables organizations to consolidate test and development infrastructure, providing central management and automation of the deployment of complex testing environments. The Surgient Virtual Training Lab Management System (VTMS) enables training organizations to automate the deployment of hands-on lab environments to support classroom and online software training. The Surgient Virtual Demo Lab Management System (VDMS) allows companies to centralize and simplify the creation, management and delivery of prepared software demonstrations and software evaluations on-demand.

Performance testing with WebLOAD

According to this article, Panorama Software, a global leader in Proactive Business Intelligence (PBI) solutions, announced results of a third-party performance benchmark evaluation conducted by the QualiTest Group, a provider of software testing and quality assurance services.
QualiTest Group evaluated Panorama NovaView Scorecards and Dashboards - components of the Company's flagship solution, Panorama NovaView. The results of their analysis position Panorama NovaView Scorecards as an industry-leading solution delivering solid performance results. The analysis was carried out using WebLOAD Professional from RadView Software. WebLOAD is a leading commercial grade performance testing tool, with 1,600 installations worldwide. The results of the independent benchmark performed by QualiTest using RadView's WebLOAD software indicated the following results from Panorama NovaView Scorecards:
  • 480 concurrent users (representing an average deployment of about approximately 5,000 total users[1]) creating and updating key performance indicators (KPIs) took 0.9 seconds;
  • 950 concurrent users (approximately 10,000 total users) navigating, slicing and interacting with scorecards took 1.1 seconds; and
  • 2,000 concurrent users (approximately 20,000 total users) logging in and opening a dashboard with the scorecard view took less than 3 seconds.

Performance testing for web applications

Microsoft have placed a guide to Performance testing for web applications here. And unlike many free documents in this area it is a substantive undertaking. To give you an idea of the contents it has 8 parts and runs to close to 200 pages. The 8 parts are:
  1. Introduction to Performance Testing - overview of performance testing types, key concepts & common terms used in performance testing.
  2. Exemplar Performance Testing Approaches - the core activities for performance testingm including how to apply performance testing to different environments, including Agile and CMMI.
  3. Identify the Test Environment -how to collect information about the project that you'll need for your performance tests.
  4. Identify Performance Acceptance Criteria - setting the performance testing objectives. You’ll also learn how to get clarity around your various performance requirements, from a performance testing perspective.
  5. Plan and Design Tests - how to model the workload and user experience to design more effective performance tests.
  6. Execute Tests - the main activities of actual performance testing.
  7. Analyse Results and Report - how to organize and present your findings in a way that’s useful.
  8. Performance Testing Techniques - the core techniques for performing load and stress testing.
